Owen Bunce Runs for Sobell House Hospice: A Tribute to His Mum
At The MGroup, we’re all about supporting our community, and today we’re thrilled to celebrate Owen Bunce’s remarkable achievement. Owen completed his first marathon this May, raising funds for Sobell House Hospice, a cause close to his heart.
A Marathon of Love and Remembrance
Owen’s marathon journey is deeply personal. As he shares:
“A marathon has always been something I’ve thought about doing, and 2024 seemed like the right time. This year marks 20 years since my beloved Mum began to lose her battle with cancer and received end-of-life care at Sobell House in Oxford. The staff at Sobell were a huge comfort during an extremely difficult time, for which we will be forever grateful.
Mum was always there cheering me on when I would run cross-country as a teenager, so it feels like a fitting tribute to run this marathon in her memory. I appreciate that times are tough at the moment. Anything you can spare will help spur me on when the going gets (inevitably) tough, as I know it will help other families affected by terminal illness.”
The Vital Work of Sobell House Hospice
Sobell House Hospice, founded in 1976, stands as one of the UK’s pioneering modern hospices. Their mission is to provide exceptional palliative and end-of-life care to adults in Oxfordshire. Each year, they support over 4,000 people and their loved ones, ensuring they live well for as long as possible and have a dignified, peaceful passing.
The hospice offers a range of services, including an inpatient unit, Living Well service, lymphoedema clinic, and outpatient clinic. Most of their care, however, is delivered in the community, either in patients’ homes or within Oxford’s hospitals. Sobell House is jointly funded by the NHS and the Sobell House Hospice Charity, working in conjunction with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
We are incredibly proud of Owen for raising £1,400 for Sobell House. If you’d like to support his efforts and this wonderful cause, please visit his JustGiving page.
The Dynamic Duo: Ollie Squire and Darren Green’s Bike Oxford Challenge
In another fantastic show of MGroup’s charitable spirit, we applaud Ollie Squire ACCA and Darren Green for their completion of the iconic Bike Oxford 2024 challenge. Despite facing unexpected obstacles, such as a tyre explosion and a long wait for assistance, their determination and teamwork shone through. They completed the ride with a moving time of 4 hours and 22 minutes.
Pedalling with Purpose: Supporting SeeSaw Oxford
Ollie and Darren’s effort was about more than just the ride; they were raising money for SeeSaw Oxford, a charity that supports families dealing with terminal illness or bereavement. SeeSaw provides crucial support to children, young people, and their families, helping them cope with loss and grief.
SeeSaw Oxford: A Beacon of Hope
SeeSaw was established in 1999 in response to a critical need for grief support services for children and young people in Oxfordshire. With over 20 years of experience, SeeSaw offers high-quality, free support before and after a bereavement. Each year, they assist over 500 bereaved children through personalized support, advice for families, and resources for schools and professionals.
Their vision is clear: to ensure that no child in Oxfordshire faces bereavement alone. They provide in-person, phone, and online support, along with valuable resources accessible to everyone.
We are immensely proud of Ollie and Darren for their dedication and perseverance in supporting SeeSaw. If you’d like to contribute to their fundraising efforts, you can still donate through the JustGiving team page.
